Grid HR
Our own HR platform: people, attendance, time off, payroll, performance and onboarding in one warm, simple home, with privacy-first AI analytics.

About the Project
Grid HR is the HR platform we design, build and run ourselves. It brings people, attendance, time off, payroll, performance and onboarding into one place for owners, HR, managers and employees, with celebrations that make work feel human.
It is multi-tenant from day one: one login can belong to several companies, and every workspace has its own roles, permissions and data.

The Challenge
Most HR software is built for admins. Growing companies end up running HR on spreadsheets, Google Forms and a handful of disconnected tools, and employees avoid opening any of them.
We set out to build an HR platform people actually look forward to opening, without cutting corners on permissions, payroll accuracy or data privacy.
What We Built
One platform for the entire employee journey:
- Attendance and shifts with clock-in, breaks, late and overtime rules, and punches pulled straight from ZKTeco fingerprint terminals
- Time off with balances, a shared leave calendar and approval chains that can be routed per employee
- Payroll runs computed by a policy engine that applies leave, overtime and late deductions, with payslip approval and Excel export
- Self-service onboarding: new hires submit their details, IDs, documents, banking and NDA acknowledgement, and HR approves and places them in the org chart
- Performance reviews scored across six dimensions into one composite score, plus goals
- A company feed with announcements and kudos, automatic birthday and anniversary celebrations, and eNPS surveys
- Documents, asset requests, a help desk, learning courses and expense claims in the same workspace
- Four roles and a 67-key permission catalogue, with managers seeing only their own reporting line

Privacy-first AI
Grid Intelligence lets owners and HR ask questions about their workforce in plain English, and writes them a weekly briefing.
Privacy is enforced in code before any model is called. Questions about an individual’s pay are refused, the model only ever sees pre-aggregated metrics with small groups suppressed, and every number in an answer is checked against the source data before it is shown. Each company brings its own Gemini or OpenRouter key, stored encrypted; without one, Grid HR falls back to plain template answers.

Under the Hood
Live presence over Socket.IO, scaled across servers with Redis. BullMQ queues for email and SMS, plus scheduled jobs that close out attendance and roll up analytics every night. OpenTelemetry tracing and structured logs, private files on S3-compatible storage with short-lived signed links, and Stripe billing, Resend email, Twilio SMS and Google sign-in.
Tech Stack
Next.js 16 and React 19 with Tailwind CSS 4, Redux Toolkit and GSAP on the frontend. NestJS 11, Prisma and PostgreSQL, Redis and BullMQ, Socket.IO and OpenTelemetry on the backend, shipped as a Docker image through GitHub Actions.
